 Myndlist og handverk hefur heillað mig frá því að ég var lítil  stelpa og ég hef alltaf unnið eitthvað í höndunum. Hef gegnum árin stundaði ýmiskonar myndlistarnám, meðal annars í Myndlistarskóla Kópavogs í olíumálun.

Glerlistinni kynntist ég fyrst þegar ég fór á glerlistarnámskeið í Danmörku árið 2003. Ég heillaðist gjörsamlega af þessu efni og hef síðan farið á fjölmörg námskeið bæði innalands og utan. Nú síðast á masterklassnámskeið hjá Frank van den Ham. Þar kynntist ég enn fleiri möguleikum í lita- og formyndunum glers.

Ég sæki mikinn innblástur í kraft og liti íslenskrar náttúru og elska íslensku fuglana, ekki síst farfuglana sem flykkjast til okkar á vorin.  Það er fátt yndislegra en að upplifa íslenska vorið og sjá náttúruna vakna til lífsins.  Hlusta á fuglana, finna ilminn af blómunum og hlusta á kyrrðina.

Ég vinn jöfnum höndum með flotgler og gegnumlitað listgler, mest frá fyrirtækinu Byllseye, sem býður uppá mjög mikla möguleika í litasamsetningum og formmyndunum.

María Karlsdóttir has been fascinated with art and crafts all her life.

 

Her career in glass mastery started when she participated in a glass-workshop in Denmark 2003.

There and then she became completely fascinated with the wondrous material of glass in all its form and colors.

She draws inspiration from the powerful nature and colors in her homeland Iceland especially from the south of Iceland where she has a second home not far away from the volcano Eyjafjallajökull.

She works equally with float glass and colored art glass and loves to combine different colors in her own special way.

 

She has attended numerous workshops in a variety of art forms both in Iceland and abroad.

The most recent one a Masterclass with Frank van den Ham from The Netherlands.

And many years in Kópavogs Art School studying oil painting.

 

She lives in Reykjavík and is a member of the art group Art Gallery 101
